Summer Wine and Cocktails

Spring is in the air which means it’s not only time to shed those heavy sweaters and boots, but it’s also white wine and rosé season. As the days get longer, there’s nothing better than sitting outside in the sun with a cool glass of wine or a cocktail. As a follow up to my video, I wanted to share some of my favorites to sip on during these warmer months.

Some rosés I really enjoy are Whispering Angel which is a go-to and pretty widely known and loved.

If you’re looking for something a little less expensive, I enjoy the Josh rosé quite a bit. One of the best rosés I have ever had was ZUM but it’s very difficult to find unfortunately.

Looking for some sparkle? You can’t go wrong with Lamberti sparkling rosé and it’s relatively inexpensive as well.

A few others to keep an eye out for are Chateau de Pampelonne, Wolffer Estate Summer in a Bottle and La Vieille Ferme.

Moving onto Sauvignon Blanc, I really love The Crossings. It is crisp, clean and just perfect on a hot day.

Some other ones to consider are Oyster Bay, Ranga Ranga, Brancott and Matua.

The Vinho Verde I mentioned in the video was Broadbent and has a slight effervescence which is really nice.

Looking for a cocktail instead?  We love making this low calorie margarita.

Margarita

1.5-2 oz tequila ( I love Casamigos blanco and Milagro)

.5 oz Cointreau

2-2.5 oz fresh lime juice

1-2 drops of liquid stevia (found some at Trader Joes)

A quarter of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (optional)

Club Soda

Shake everything until well mixed, pour over ice and top with plain or grapefruit seltzer. If you’re feeling salty, rim your glass before filling. Another option is leaving out the grapefruit juice and topping off your drink with Mango Lime seltzer from Polar.

If you are in the mood for gin, we’ve been loving the Gin Gin Fizz lately and even bought a whipped cream maker so that we can recreate the egg white foam that tops it off. Don’t worry, you don’t need to get that fancy in order to recreate this classic cocktail.

Gin Gin Fizz

2 oz Gin (Hendrick’s or Nolet’s are both a great choice)

1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice

1-2 drops of liquid stevia

1 egg white or half an ounce

Club Soda

Add the first four ingredients to a shaker without ice and shake for about 15-20 seconds. Add ice and shake again. Pour into a glass and top it off with club soda.

If you’re using the whipped cream maker for the foam topping, add the egg whites, a squeeze of fresh orange juice and a drop or 2 of liquid stevia. Shake rigorously then dispense on top of your cocktail. Another nice combo for the egg white foam topping is egg white, pamplemousse liqueur and freshly squeezed orange juice. (FYI using this method would be in place of adding the egg whites to the cocktail shaker)

Cheers and enjoy these long sunny days of summer!!

Liquid Stevia I mentioned pictured here-
